Poetry

My most recent illustrated poem was "Let's Go Hunt Rainbows" inspired by being stuck indoors with young children after several days of rain. It is about getting outside, whatever the weather. I am currently working on a poem about rivers, streams and canals.
I have written and illustrated a couple of books of poetry for young children. A bonus of doing this is that I have found it a really good way of creating a coherent group of pictures.
"Take to the Wing" is a celebration of the birds in the UK that we commonly see and our relationship with them. Many of the pictures that illustrate it feature Clumber Park, a local National Trust property, teeming with birds.
"Under the Leaves" is a poem about the animals and plants that live in Sherwood Forest, on the themes of conservation, utilisation and foraging. It resulted in a series of 11 A4 acrylic paintings. It was inspired by a fur collar that I was given to wear as I a volunteer at Papplewick Pumping station 1940's event.
"Let's go and pick peas" was written after I was asked to make a book for a baby with realistic pictures of farm animals.
